Betty Jane Martin Farmer of Shawnee, KS, age 86, joined her Creator on November 28, 2018. Born Friday, September 13, 1932, to C.C. & Mabel (States) Martin of Ft. Scott, KS. She honored her parents; he a self-sustained pastor & owner of a plumbing/heating shop & she a registered nurse. They both were army veterans from WWI & Mabel a civilian nurse during WWII. Jane was a lifelong member of the RLDS Church now Community of Christ. Proceeded in death August 31, 2018, by her daughter, Kathleen Farmer Bailey Oatman. Also by her only sibling & family: Rosalie Martin Newhouse, husband, Richard, & son, Monte. Jane is survived by daughter Cynthia Huyett, sons Rod (Kristine Klausen) & Martin (Sandra Goold) Farmer, son in law, Roger Oatman, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, & many loved cousins. In 1977 after a 28 year marriage to Eugene Farmer, she determined to get a college degree. Jane began at JCCC, worked at least 2 jobs, cared for her mother, & graduated in 1981 from Ottawa University with B.S. in Social Work & Recreation. She loved & was faithful to her God, children, much extended family, & many friends. She found joy & renewal in nature, swimming, sailing, music, dancing, family, & friends. She was a valued tennis partner & travel companion. Jane instilled those passions in her family. She found her purpose in service to others. She was action, not discussion. She was prayer, turn it over to God, & then do as Spirit led. She practiced love and an attitude of gratitude. She volunteered at 4-H club, youth camps, taught swimming, organized & hosted community prayer groups & activities. Jobs included Public Relations Director at Bellefontaine Community Center, Community Development Supervisor in KCK, Program Director YWCA, MO Social Worker 1984-2001.
Jane’s life will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Olathe Community of Christ, 15520 S. Ridgeview Rd., Olathe, KS 66062. Visitation at 1 pm with Celebration at 2 pm. Perhaps remember Jane by donating time, talent, or money as Spirit leads
