Obituary for Thomas Eugene Stark

Tom Stark, 59 yrs old, entered heaven on 08/28/2020 after prolonged health issues. Tom was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo and graduated from Hogan High School in 1979. He began working security for Wells Fargo and the Federal building in Kansas City, Mo before becoming a Deputy for the Wyandotte Co Sheriff’s Office in November of 1987. Tom’s career began in the old WyCo jail and he helped with the transition to the new jail. He was promoted to Corporal and was a supervisor. In 1996 he became the Probate Deputy and remained in this position until his passing. He was known as the Probate Whisperer due to his remarkable caring, respect and trust when handling those with Mental Illness. Throughout his 33 year law enforcement career, he was well respected by his peers and the community of Wyandotte County. He was awarded Deputy of the year in 2008 by the Armourdale Optimist Club. His knowledge and easy going personality was beloved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Wyandotte County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 40. Those close to him called him “Tom Cat or Big Daddy”. Being of some Native American descent, Tom was head of Security for the Annual Harvest Moon American Indian Festival for 6 of its 7 years at 31st and Troost, KC, MO. Tom loved children and to travel. His favorite places were the Black Hills, the Rocky Mountains and, locally, Powell Gardens. Tom was a simple man and enjoying the simple life with family, friends and communing with nature was Tom’s idea of the perfect life.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Edward T. Stark in 1990. Surviving are his wife, Susan, who loved and treasured him, and sons Cody and Nathan of the home. Also his mother, Mary Stark in Olathe, Ks; Brother Steve (Suzanne) Stark in Olathe, Ks; Granddaughters Bailey and Emily; nieces and extended family and their Grandchildren .

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will take place on September 23, 2020 at 6pm at the Beach House Shelter at Wyandotte County Lake. (Please wear mask & practice social distancing)
