Obituary for Marietta Louise Anthony

Green burial for Marietta Louise Anthony (formerly Murchison), Shawnee, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, at Highland Cemetery in Prairie Village. She died unexpectedly on December 24, 2019, at The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas.
Born May 20, 1942, in Texarkana, Texas, to Charles Lee and Janet Louise (Anthony) Murchison, Marietta graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1966. Beyond assigned studies, she read widely for pleasure most of her life and carried a journal with her wherever she went. She was employed as an intake social worker, a substitute teacher, a typist, and a dental hygienist at times. She cooked for a human services organization. As a volunteer, she once gave inoculations to people in Nicaragua.
Marietta enjoyed singing, romantic movies, dramatic weather, and watermelon. She loved her dog Romba and often spoke of dogs and cats along with people she had known.
Survivors include her half brother, Richard Alan “Dick” Murchison of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, more than a dozen half nieces and nephews, and her close friend and caregiver, Susan Heiman.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Save the Children and may be sent in care of Highland Park Funeral Home, 4101 State Ave., Kansas City, KS 66102.
