Obituary for Willie J. Banks

Willie James Banks was the oldest biological child of Minnie Ola Fears. He was adopted by his grandparents, James and Betty Banks, and with the help of his aunt, Leola Banks, was raised in Minden, Louisiana. He was born on November 7, 1956 in Minden, Louisiana. Willie was often referred to by two nicknames- “Kangaroo” and “Buck.” Those who knew him growing up often referred to him by either of those names.
He was educated in the Webster Parish School System where he graduated from Webster High School. His class, Class of 1975, was the last class to graduate from Webster High School due to integrating Minden High School. Willie was a member of the Webster High Wolves Basketball Team where he gained the nickname, “Kangaroo.” He would leap to take a jump shot that was so precise that it mimics the actions of a Kangaroo; so his team mates began calling him Kangaroo. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he made a career of serving. After his military career, Willie relocated to Kansas City, KS where he made his home. Willie James found a passion for the road and began a career of cross country truck driving for well over 15 years. Anyone who knew him, knew that food, family, and his furry friends(dogs) were his first loves.
Willie James was preceded in death by his grandparents- James & Betty Banks; his mother-Minnie Ola Fears; aunts- Leola Banks, Jessie Mae Henderson and Lullaby Dillard; Uncles- Juluis Banks Sr., Roosevelt Banks Sr., Jimmy Banks Sr., and Claude Banks.
